Using the JSATS
System to Monitor Fish Passage and Behavior
Project design, implementation, and analytical tools

A Short Course by
Blue Leaf Environmental
Ellensburg WA

The Juvenile Salmonid Acoustic Telemetry System (JSATS) was developed as a fisheries research tool to help address questions about the movement patterns, behavior, and survival of juvenile salmonids and other fishes. Implementing a successful JSATS project of any scale requires careful pre-deployment planning, equipment knowledge and selection, a carefully engineered deployment strategy, good data collection and management protocols, and thoughtful and appropriate analysis. Join Blue Leaf Environmental’s team of JSATS specialists for a JSATS short-course that will cover all project aspects described above in a two-day intense mini-study of hands-on training beginning with the development of a research question, and following the project through actual equipment deployment in Blue Leaf’s backyard pond, simulated fish movement using remote controlled boats, data collection and processing from JSATS receivers, data analysis, results visualization, and reporting. You will finish this course with the basic knowledge and skills needed to design and implement a successful JSATS study in your own backyard.
